Toyota Repair: 98 Camry with 4 cylinder, excessive oil consumption, blue smoke

Question
Ted,
My Camry has 137K on it and I go through  a quart of oil every 1800 miles. I change the oil every 3-4K.  Should I take it to a mechanic for them to determine if I have an oil gel problem or consider the oil burn "normal" for this many miles?  Thanks,

Answer
Toyota considers oil consumption of one quart per 1000 miles normal, unless there is excessive oil consumption or a lot of blue smoke from the exhaust the dealers will not check for oil gelling, there has to be a specific complaint about either one or both of those conditions which have to be verified by the dealer before they will even consider the possibility of an oil gel problem. From what you have told me so far you don't seem to have this problem.
