Toyota Repair: Car Overheating, toyota tercel, electric cooling fan

Question
I replaced the head and the headgasket with new ones, I do not know if the problem existed before I did or not since I got the car for free from a person which had it parked outside and had not drove it for atleast 3 years since it had a broken valve and cracked head. As far as I can tell the coolant is going completly through the radiator but if I take the radiator cap off and crank the motor coolant shoots out of the radiator about a foot or two, when I replaced the thermostat there was black sludge on it if that helps any.

-----Question-----
I just replaced the head and head gasket on my 1985 toyota tercel and im getting a lot of pressure built up in my radiator and within 15 minutes of idling the car over heats to the point that the antifreze going into the antifreze reserve tank is steaming, I replaced the thermostat and it had no effect.

Does the electric cooling fan turn on? There seems to be a restriction somewhaere in the cooling system causing a lack of circulation of the cooant, the radiator may be the cause, it may be clogged up, did this same condition exist before the head was replaced and if not why was the head replaced?

Answer
I don't think I can help much it still sounds like there is a major problem, there seems to be combustion pressure going directly into the cooling system, I would recommend removing the cylinder head and inspect the cylinder walls for a possible crack in one of the cylinder walls or the block. You could also pressurize the cooling system with the engine not running and see if it can be pressurized if not there is a large leak internally which would confirm the cracked block theory.
