Toyota Repair: fuel problems, filter lines, fuel problems

Question
i have a 1975 toyota truck/chinook, the engine says 21R-U on it, however the book says its a 20R and they dont look the same, my actual problem is it seems that the choke gets stuck, because i can only go so far and it starts running bad and wont go, then i mess with the choke linkage and it will go again for a few more blocks?  do you have any suggestions, or a direction i could look in to find a picture of 21R-U? thankyou for your time!

Answer
Candy,

Regardless of which engine your truck has in it, they all use the same basic carburetor.  If you remove the air cleaner lid there is a butterfly plate in the top of the carburetor.  It should be wide open if the engine is hot. Also, check to see your fuel pump is good. There is a small window in the front of the carburetor. There should always be gasoline in the middle of the window. If the truck dies the choke is open and the window is dry then you have a bad fuel pump or clogged filter, lines, etc.

Gotta love that Toyota runs forever!!!

Good Luck!!!
