Toyota Repair: 2001 Toyota Sienna Van column shifter, sienna minivan, column shifter

Question
The column shifter on our 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan is grinding/locked up and will not slide into positions. It just slowly got worse & worse. Is it difficult to fix yourself and are the relacement parts expensive

Answer
Yes it can be difficult depending on what broke, remove the plastic covers around the steering wheel and take a look to see what the problem may be, if it's only the shift handle then it's not so bad but if the bracket that mounts to the steering column is broken the entire column has to be removed and parts replaced as needed, parts may run around $200-300.
