Toyota Repair: 96 Camry engine balancer, metal debris, camry

Question
96 Camry 5S-FE 4cyl  Auto

I just finished rebuilding the engine had it back together and it knocks.  I removed the engine balancer to find that this knock disappeared.  Is the knock likely a matter of how I install the balancer or within the balancer itself.  Just for info I did have a true toyota shop manual that I followed.
Is it a better idea to simply buy a new balancer.

Thanks

Answer
If there was severe engine damage to the engine were there was a lot of metal debris in the engine the balancer may have been damaged, if the correct clearance was set up following the factory manual the noise is not caused by installation, if the clearance was too much there would be a loud whining noise, it may be necessary to replace the balancer.
