Toyota Repair: suspension, sway bar bushings, sludge problem

Question
1997 Camry 4 cyl.

I get a lot of noise from both rear and front of car.  It appears that the rear stabilizer bar may need new bushings??
The front end is the worst.  Over rough roads the front squeeks significantly.  I've read a review that the upper strut tower cushios is defective on this model but have not been able to locate that part or a diagram of where it is located.  Any ideas on this?  Also, I bought this used with a replaced engine.  I've read where there seems to be an oil sludge problem with these engines.  Is there anything I can do to keep this from being a problem on the newly replace motor??

thanks very much,
Dave

Answer
Dave,

The 6 cylinder version is the sludge motor, not the 4 cylinder.

As the suspension goes, without hearing and driving the car it is difficult to diagnose. I would start by inspecting and lubricate the sway bar bushings. Unbolt the sway bar from the body and remove the bushing. Use a paste type silicon and coat the inside of the bushing liberally then re-install the sway bar. Do the same for the rear.

Then drive the car to see if anything has changed.

Good Luck!!
