Toyota Repair: engine swap, 3s gte, 4agze

I have an 87 FX16 GTS, which has tranny woes, needs replacing. I'm thinking that if I'm going to go to that trouble, I should consider an engine swap. 4age slivertop 20 valve, with FWD gearbox and ECU are readily available cheaply (out of ae111). How difficult would the fitment be ? I know I would need the appropriate wiring harness. How about really going crazy and dropping in a 4agze ?(MR2 turbo)

Shit man put a v6 in it. Most likely the same overall cost. Way better gas mileage. Way stronger engine. Way faster car. Too much raw powerband for the i4's to compete!
You should get on a tuner site for the A blocks, or a corolla. It's been done plenty I'm sure.


What I've never honestly understood. Is why people spend lots of money for very little upgrade overall on such swaps. Generally, the performance VS the price is just complete junk.

Honestly... If a 3s-gte can be put in it. *Then* a v6 can be put in it.

I digress. I don't keep up with the AE86, so find you a good tuner site.
