Toyota Repair: low idle, vacuum pot, toyota highlander

Question
2001 Toyota Highlander v6. Will not idle when cold.
disconnected the throttle opener vacuum pot to get it to idle when warmed up. Otherwise when warm it will idle at 250 rpm. Disconnected it idles at 750. I suspect the idle air valve?? Your thoughts?

Answer
James,

Yes I agree that your idle air valve is probably the culprit. Before you replace it though I would try to clean it and the throttle body. It might be easiest if you remove the throttle body from the intake first then you can clean inside both sides of the throttle plate.

The dashpot you disconnected holds the throttle open when the engine is off to prevent the throttle plate from sticking in the bore. It also aids in start-up.
