Toyota Repair: 1998 Avalon rough idle/misfire, general mechanic, coil assembly

Question
Ted:
I recently acquired a 1998 Avalon with approximately 130,000 miles from my father. Intermittently, it exhibits a "hiccup" or bucking sensation. This seems to occur more often at lower speeds or at idle. The injectors have been flushed and the spark plugs replaced but the problem continues. Our regular, general mechanic can not determine the problem and has given me a TSB that suggests "improperly operating ignition coil assembly". He experienced a rather intense episode of the rough engine and when he "gunned" the engine, the episode ended and was then unable to experience the same problem when driving it himself. I'd appreciate any insights you may have.  Thank you very much.

Answer
I am familiar with this bulletin(TSB EG008-04) the misfire is caused by one or more of the coil packs in the cylinder head near the radiator, the misfire can be determined by using a scantool and reading the data to see which cylinder is causing the misfire and then replacing that coil pack. The coil packs are all on cylinders number 2-6, since each coil fires two cylinders there may be a multiple misfire code in which case the check engine light should turn on, then the trouble code can be read.
