Toyota Repair: 93 Toyota Camry LE Brakelight issue, toyota camry, metal brace

Question
My taillights work and my brakelight in the back window works, however none of the other brakelights work.  When I press the brakes only the one in the window comes on.  I have checked all the bulbs and they all look fine.  Please help, I am confused and frustrated.

Thanks in advance for your expertise and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Answer
There are a couple of possible causes, starting with the most common one, there is a small wire harness that runs along the left trunk hinge into the trunk and then into the passenger compartment, it is common for the wires to break inside the harness near the trunk hinge, the harness has to be cut open to check for broken wires, the affected area is from the hinge all the way to the trunk where it enters the pass compartment, one other failure is the tail light warning lamp relay located on a metal brace under the trunk carpeting on the left, in either case the carpeting has to be peeled back to get to the harness and to the relay, a lot of times you can tell if the relay is bad because it will smell burned, if any wires are broken they need to be spliced back together and the harness taped back up.
