Toyota Repair: 4runner lost all acceleration and braking, toyota dealership, meaningful analysis

Question
The engine light came on but there were no codes provided to me.  The dealer is TOTALLY dumbfounded by this one.  Another mechanic that I have spoken with thinks that it could be the vacuum cannister/valve/sensor? because the engine continued to run, there were no codes and both the brake and the accelerator were totally depressed against the floor.  The vehicle cranked perfectly the next day and has left no evidence or trail of the ills that were encountered.  If a similar situation occurs again, I will send additional information that might help you provide a more meaningful analysis.  So until then, thanks for listening.

-----Question-----
I was driving my 98 4runner last night and lost control of all braking and acceleration but neither the engine nor the power turned off.  At around 75 mph, I was pressing the accelerator and noticed no response.  And then the speed of the vehicle slowed down very gradually(20-30 seconds) and I was able to pull over to the side of the road and stop the vehicle safely.  Once stopped, I could no longer depress the accelerator nor the brake but the engine kept running and electrical items continued to work.  Local Toyota dealership says it is not the belts nor the transmission and gave the vehicle back to me with a clean bill of health.  Any advice on this one?

When all of this happened did the check engine light on the dash turn on and if it did I need to know the trouble codes that the dealer retreived.

Answer
Since the check engine light came on when this happened there was a malfunction, I don't know why the dealer would not or could not provide this information but if this happens again and I think it will, please give me the trouble codes that they get from the computer, without that basic information I have nothing to go by, does it have VSC/trac control and let me know if those warning light come on also or if so do they come on by themselves without the check engine light.
The thing I don't understand is why the dealer is "dumbfounded" if the check engine light was on, the trouble code will give them an area to check for the problem and a diagnostic procedure, this just doesn't sound right to me?  If you continue to have this problem I would recommend going to another toyota dealer if possible, I don't have much confidence in the one you went to based on what you told me.
