complaint:faulty brake performance/pedal has to be depressed alot before gripping/ stops unevenly.
cause: air in the system also rear drum brakes to be adjusted
cure: i bleed the system. when it came down to adjustment i was unable to find the adjustment screw please to display the diagram for a 97 model Toyota corolla rear brake assembly thanx

Answer
The rear derum brakes can be adjusted without removing the brake drum, look for a small oval rubber plug on the brake backing plate, it may have already been removed before and is missing, in that case look for the oval shaped opening, the brake adjusting ratchet wheel is inside, with a small screwdriver move the wheel in the direction so that you can hear a clicking noise, the wheels must be of the ground, after a few clicks spin the wheel, keep clicking and spinning the wheel just until there is a little bit of a drag on the wheel, at that point stop! The rear brakes are now adjusted.
