Toyota Repair: corolla, engine crane, diesel mechanic

Question
Dear Mike, I just bought a two ton capacity hydraulic engine crane and after I put it together I am going to attempt to replace the complete clutch assy om My 94 corrola sedan.  The clutch bearing has been making extra noise for the last six months and I have been told if I dont fix it one day it will leave me hanging.  I plan to do this in my garage and am not afraid to try it, but I am pretty ignorant about this procedure and do not have much experience with front wheel drive.  I bought this car new in Germany and it has 130,999 miles on it and I never had to replace so much as a light bulb.  The paint is burning off from the sun in New Mexico but I dont care about that.
So, Mike any advice you can give me on this job I would appreciate more than you know, As a diesel mechanic for 21 years you probably will believe me as I can say from experience there is a lot of stuff you can screw up with out really trying when you dont know what you are doing.
So thats why I am writing, If you dont have time to reply that okay, No sweat
Hoping for the best,
Pat Swift

Answer
The job is best suited for a lift.
You support the engine from the top and drop the trans out the bottom.
You can take an Auto trans motor out the top, but a manual doesnt quite fit because of the clutch set up.
I would seriously recommend you NOT try and pull it out the top.
If your set on doing it yourself, in a garage, find a way to drop it out the bottom.
I dont know how I would go about it otherwise.
I have a lift in my garage.
