Toyota Repair: brakes, brake rotor, brake rotors

Question
1994 corolla, i have had the pads replaced, discs machined and the brakes have a grinding sound. someone said they are cristalizing. what does that mean, is this possible or what else could it be?

Answer
It means the pads are overheating, melting on the face & turning hard. And no, unless you're pretending to be Micheal Schumaker, the average driver won't come close to heating pads that hot, for long enough to melt them.

Normally it goes away with the application of the brakes. If it's not better in a week, or two. Take it back.

99% of people that get new brakes use them far too harshly. Pads really need a good 100 miles of short, gental braking to really break in good. Brembo (The world's bst brake rotors) says the average brake rotor needs atleast 1,000 miles of easy braking before the rotor is really ready for good use.
