1995 corolla 1.8 i turned the key and nothing happened, tried again same thing 3rd try the car started right up. 3 days later the same thing happened. what's wrong. rich

First check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight,is there any clicking noise when trying to start, if so the starter is the problem, if not there may be a problem with the neutral start switch located on the transmission.

Answer
Actually both, remove the top of the air filter housing and the connecting hose so you can get to the top starter bolt on the bellhousing side, then from underneath remove the electrical connections and the other bolt on the engine side, make sure that the battery has been disconnected to avoid shorts, the starter can be removed through the top, there is not enough room to come out the bottom.
