Toyota Repair: 94 toyota transmissiom, changing transmission fluid, transmission damage

Question
94 automatic corrolla won't shift out of 1st, when I start out( most often on a cold day)After the heat guage moves up it shifts into 2nd and is ok. I have been driving it this way for 9 months, recently, I've been putting it into low and then shifting manually. I had it at a transmission, place and they couldn't duplicate the problem. they road tested and Scanned and checked codes and check connections. It has 138K.

Answer
Assuming there is no mechanical transmission damage.
I would start by changing the transmission fluid, then checking/replacing the shift solenoids, and coolant sensors.

Changing transmission fluid is critical for the life of a transmission. Never go more than 3 years without changing it. The fluid condition & level alone is responcible for more than 90% of transmission failures.
