Toyota Repair: 1989 Toyota Camry, 1989 toyota camry, toyota camry

Question
This little old toyota has run like a charm for 160,000 miles.  Now it still runs like a charm, but has no acceleration.  It is a clutch type transmission.  My mechanic checked some sensors, temp, some sort of fuel sensors, I had a tune up done that didn't help much either.  It starts fine, and the engine runs fine, but when you start out from a dead spot it takes forever to reach any speed.  And mind you when you step on the gas, the rpms don't increase, I mean say you are at a dead stop and you step on the gas the motor does not race, it just slowly goes until you finally get to the speed.  I realise that it is an old car but I had suspected the engine would go bad or the transmission, not just that it would get lazy.

Answer
It may be a restriction in the exhaust system, the catalytic converter may be blocked, the cat converter can be disconnected from the exhaust to check for any particles that may fall out of the converter, if that's the case the converter needs to be replaced an maybe the muffler also because it may have been clogged from the converter material.
