Toyota Repair: White Smoke & Fuel Odor, engine hesitation, combustion chambers

Question
Hello,
I have a 1994 Toyota Pick Up, 4 cylinder with a manual transmission and over 200,000 miles. I have been having engine hesitation problems recently and I did a normal tune up, Spark plugs, wires. However, recently it is idling erratically and it produces a lot of white smoke and ugly fuel odor. Need help to find out why the white smoke and fuel odor on my truck.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Answer
This could indicate a leaking headgasket, white smoke is steam which is created when coolant enters one or more of the combustion chambers and is burned, the fuel smell may not be fuel but burning antifreeze. There are tests that can be done to verify a blown headgasket, most repair shops or the toyota dealer can diagnose this.
