Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry radiator fan switch, radiator fan, toyota camry

Question
Hi Ted,
Toyota Camry 92 4 cylinder.  How do I check if the radiator fan switch is bad? I pulled the plug at the bottom of the radiator and the fan turn on continuously.  If I put the plug back, the fan doesn't turn on when it is hot enough.  I think I know it is hot enough because I let the car idle for a long time and I can see smoke coming from the ( new) radiator and the fan doesnt' turn on by itself.    I also checked the relay Fan 1, Fan 2 relay to next to the fuse box, to see if it is loose but it is good.  Before I purchase a new radiator fan switch, do you think there is a way to test it? By the way, if I unplug the radiator fan switch- pull the plug off the radiator, doesn't it cause any problem? Please give me your thoughts on what I should do and thank you for your help.

Answer
Try replacing the switch to see if the fans work normally.
Disconnecting the switch will make the fan run all the time when the switch is on, it won't cause any problems it will just take a little longer for the engine to get to the operating temperature.
