Toyota Repair: panel warning light on, 1991 toyota camry, toyota camry

Question
Hi Mike,
I own a 1991 toyota camry dx 4 cylinder with 137,000 miles.  Recently I had the timing belt and water pump serviced. My problem is this: During driving or when the car is running/idling, the "brake light", "charging light", and the "light" on the instrument panel comes on for awhile and then goes off.  I had the alternator and battery tested which checks out OK.  The car runs fine except for the abnormal display on the instrument panel.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
The brushes in the Alt. are worn out.
They intermittantly loose contact and flicker the light.
You can buy brushes at the dealer, take the cover off the rear of the alt. and install. Be carefull not to strip the screws.
Much cheaper than a new or rebuild Alt.
Moderate Mechanical ability required.
