Toyota Repair: T100 Starter Click, shift linkage, automatic shift

Question
1996 T100 with 66K Miles. After the engine has cooled, all I get is a click when I turn the key. To start, I take it out of park, slam it back into park, open and slam the door then turn the key. Works every time. I have read about starter contacts, but wonder if this is really it. Might have something to do with automatic shift linkage. Is there a switch or something misbehaving after it cools?

Answer
I don't think it's the starter in this case, there may be a problem with the neutral start switch, fist make sure that it's mounting bolts are tight and then remove the connector and check for any corrosion that may be present on the terminals both on the connector and the switch, if that checks good the other options may be to remove the switch and take it apart and clean the contact strips inside, the other is to just replace the switch and see if it helps.
