Question -
i just bought a 1992 toyota corrola with 187000 miles on it.I am planning on using it to deliver newspapers, when i opened the hood i found that the wire that comes off the electric fan was unplugged and there were to wires pluged into the plug thats coming off the fan it apparently is hot wired.Well i thought it was the relay because when you touch it it's really hot so i went to the auto parts store to buy a new relay,I put the relay in and plugged everything in like when it was new but to my dismay it didn't work and the new relay still gets hot .Any help would be appreciated.

Check the fan motor, it may have seized up, disconnect the electrical connector from the fan and see if the fan can be turned, try making two jumper wires and connect the fan directly to the battery, it doesn't matter which way if the motor is good it will spin in either direction. If it tests good disconnect the connector on the bottom of the radiator teperature switch, with the key on the fan should run all the time, if this is the case replace the temp switch.

i did everything you said when i unplugged the radiator temprature switch the fan did not come on but i know the fan works do you know what else might be the problem.

Answer
There is an open circuit somewhere in the wire harness which is too involved for me to help anymore without actually being able to look at the car using a wiring diagram and a voltmeter to trace the circuit, I suggest that you take the car to someone that knows how to diagnose electrical problems, sorry, good luck with this,
