Toyota Repair: My Corolla/94, toyota corolla 1994, s gauge

Question
I have a Toyota Corolla 1994 DX,with 135,000 miles,  good car by the way, until a few weeks ago, sometimes in the morning on my way to work, it starts to lose power and the speedometer's gauge goes crazy, it just keeps moving back an forth. If I'm driving at 55 mph the gauge goes to 0 and then to 40, to 50, then goes to 10, to 20 etc.I took it to a mechanic, he test it with the computer and told me that I had to replace the transmission sensor for what I paid $300. It didn't do anything.I took my car back to the mechanic and he couldn't find what the problem is. He told me that he drove my car for about 30 minutes and he didn't see anything wrong with it.That is one of the problem, sometimes the car does have the problem and some times it doesn't. But I still have the same problem and I don't want to keep spending money from mechanic to mechanic. Do You think it is a good idea to take it to the Toyota dealer? or what I need to do with it?

Answer
First off, If he didnt fix your complaint you are entitled to a refund.

It may be the speedo head.
The signal goes from the sensor, thru the speedo head to the ECU.
If you get a wrong or false signal to the computer, it wont shift right.

Taking it to Toyota isnt a bad idea as they can diagnose it properly. You need a Toyota scan tool to check it out.
