Toyota Repair: System Code P0401, toyota camry, rav 4

Question
On 10/13/2005 you answered a question concerning an EGR System Code P0401 on a Toyota 2000 RAV4 4cyl.
I have the same system code on my 2001 Toyota Camry 4cyl. Question, is the repair procedure the same as the RAV4 or is there any other steps that I need to do.

Thanks

Answer
The camry and rav-4 use the same engine so the repair procedures are the same, the most common fault on both vehicles is that the EGR modulator develops a leak and without going through a lot of testing procedures go there first, remove the modulator, it's located on the egr valve on a bracket, if air can pass through from the bottom port the valve is no good and replacing it should solve the problem, the second most cause is the egr vacuum switching valve located underneath on the back of the intake manifold.
