Toyota Repair: 95 Geo Prizm Air bag sensor failure, geo prizm, pep boys

Question
Mike,

We are considering buying a '95 Geo Prizm from a family member for our teenage daughter. We were recently told the car had an 'air bag sensor failure'.  When the car was taken to their mechanic they were told the air bags would not operate and that the car probably wasn't worth the cost to repair it. What's your opinion? What does this do to the resale value of the vehicle?
Would this problem ever cause the airbags to deploy unexpectedly?

Answer
when the light is on the airbag system is shut down and will not operate.
I need a code to tell you what went bad. You need to get the car scanned.
Pep Boys and that kind of store usually scan for free in hopes youll buy parts there.
Then you can weigh the cost and see what you want to do.

I would not put my teen in a car with no airbags.
