Toyota Repair: transmission, clutch pressure plate, toyota pickup

Question
I've got a '94 Toyota pickup, 4 cyl. 5 speed bought new and now has 255,000 miles. A couple of weeks ago I experinced a problem shifting in 4th releasing the clutch and there was a terrible grinding noise. Found another trans w/only 123,000 miles and put in new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Now it's still the same grinding noise in 4th gear only, so I'm forced to go from 3rd to 5th. Is there something else I've missed or just bad luck w/2nd trans.?   Thanks for your help.

Answer
Chances for the replacement transmission having the same exact problem as the old one are almost non existent, the only thing I can think of is that the shifter bushings are worn, did the replacement transmission come with the shift tower, if not here is what you can do to possibly solve the problem, remove the center console if it has one and then remove the shift boot, take off the shift knob and slide the boot over and out of the way, remove the shift lever by pressing down on the lever retainer, there is a spring under it, turn it to release the shift lever and it will pop out, remove the shift lever and look inside the opening, there should be a round teflon bushing about 1+1/2" diameter, it may be disintegrated or gone completely, get both new bushings for the end of the shift lever and the one in the shift tower from the toyota dealer and replace them, this may just solve your problem.
