Toyota Repair: 2003 TOYO HIGHLANDR 4CYL POOR MPG, k n air filter, kragen autoparts

Question
I have a 2003 Toyota 4cyl automatic with approx. 53,000 miles.  I use 5w30 Amsoil Synt. oil and filter. K&N air filter (just cleaned), replaced plugs with Iridium ones, new PCV valve, run 32PSI (cold) in tires.  Seems to run fine, however recently the check engine light comes on and off.  All fluids OK, Trans etc...

My wife just went a trip 99% HWY with cruise on 75MPH, she filled up and only got 22.5 MPG we used to get around 26-27 mpg.  Any ideas what to do ?  Oxygen sensor etc.....?

Answer
Since the engine light did turn on we need to find out why by connecting a diagnostic scantool to the onboard computer to read the trouble codes, the toyota service department can do this for you or you can check in your area for an Autozone or Kragen autoparts, some of these will retreive the code for you at no cost to you, the code will be an alphanumeric code with a brief description of where the problem may be, for instance "PO 1135, bank one sensor one oxygen sensor malfunction" once you have this information you can contact me again if you need more help.
