Toyota Repair: Toyota cressida, toyota cressida, air hoses

Question
I have a problem with my toyota cressida glx 1991 model.

First. the Idle revs are about 2-3 x 1000 rpm which means whenever i drive it it cuts off or sometimes the engine just stalls during stopping at the traffic lights. its becoming a major problem. is there any way of adjusting the revs? or is there another problem?

Answer
There is another problem, most of the time idle problems are caused by air leaks in the intake system or a malfunctioning EGR system or an engine misfire at idle.
Check the intake air hoses from the air filter to the throttle body for any cracks, this is very common, if not, make sure the engine does not have a misfire one or more cylinder, if that's the case there will be a noticeable loss of power.
In some cases but not very common the EGR valve may be staying on which will put exhaust gases into the intake at idle when it should not.
