Toyota Repair: 1992 Toyota celica, toyota celica, steering wheel

Question
We can not get the steering column to unlock when we put the key in the ignition.  We have tried by putting it in neutral with no luck.  What else can we do?

Answer
The shifter or the shift interlock system has nothing to do with the steering wheel lock.
The steering lock pin is not releasing, make sure there is no pressure on the steering shaft, sometimes after parking if the wheel is not straight and forced up against a curb it can bind up the pin, try moving the steering wheel from side to side after putting the key in to the on position, this may release the lock pin, if not the entire lock assembly on the steering column may have to be replaced.
