Toyota Repair: Water pump broken, toyota tercel, broken water

Question
I am considering on buying a 1993 Toyota Tercel.  It has a broken water pump and cracked headgasket.  It still runs well, just overheats.  I am wondering if it would be better to buy this car and have the repairs made or just forget the whole thing entirely..?  How much would repairs like that cost (approximately)?

Answer
I depends on how much you are going to pay for this car, even if the rest of it was in good shape, anything over $500 is too much considering what is wrong with the engine, just to replace the headgasket and the water pump may cost over $1,000. Depending on the mileage of the car there may be a lot more wrong with it which require more repairs, doesn't sound like a good investment to me.
