Toyota Repair: 95 Celica GT Convertible LED stop/brake light, celica gt, convertible tops

Question
I have a convertible that has the LED stop/brake light at the base of the convertible frame/top of the trunk.  The light isn't working.  I've checked the fuses but they're ok.
An electrical engineer friend looked at it today and we're both stumped as to how to even get at the light assembly.  After removing numerous bolts from both the inside and outside, the base doesn't move at all.  Could the LED stop light be built into the base of the convertible top and inserted into the frame?  If so, how  do I get it repaired-short of replacing the convertible top?
(I have photos if needed)
Thanks.

Answer
I don't have a lot of information on the convertible tops as almost all of them were installed here in the US and there is not much information availabe from toyota in the repair manual, if you would like send me the photos that you have directly to me at tedrttr@yahoo.com and I'll see if I can help.
