Toyota Repair: 94 Toyota 4Runner ATF light, toyota 4runner, torque converter

Question
Recently purchased this truck, ATF light came on after travel of about 45 min. Took to transmission place and they replaced speed sensor.
2 months later, next road trip, after about 45 min light again comes on. Can smell the overheated fluid.
No toyota dealer in town--am upset transmission shop didn't fix. Read about transmission fluid cooling fan (shop probably did check--but?) and am wondering about adding an extra cooler. Also read that extra cooling fan came with orginal tow package, which this has. Any advice?

Answer
This was and still is on occasion a problem, without going into the technical aspects of why this happens I will just give you the solution to the problem, take the truck to a shop or the toyota dealer that has a transmission flushing machine and have all of the old fluid flushed out and new fluid installed, this will remove all of the fluid including the fluid in the torque converter, if done correctly this will fix the atf overheating light coming on, it works, I have fixed my own 4Runner and a few customer's complaints by doing this, be sure to use Dexron III fluid. It will cost about $140 but it will fix the problem permanently, just change the fluid at least every 30,000 miles or sooner after that.
