Toyota Repair: 91 Toyota 22RE 4X4 Dies after start, air flow meter, toyota 22re

Question
My truck seemed to have run out of gas even thiugh I had 1/2 a tank. It is getting plenty of fire. My first guess was the fuel filter. I changed the on on the side of the block. The truck started right up but will only run a few seconds then die. Next I thought it must be the pump filter. I dropped the tank and changed the fuel pump filter and the fuel pump, just in case. No change. I ran a wire straight from the battery to the pump in case the wire might be bad. Nohing. I have ohmed out every sensor they all checked out OK. I later traded the sensors out one at a time with a running truck. Still no change. There is plenty of fuel at the rail. I put noid lights on the injectors, they are firing fine. I changed the EFI relay and the ECM (used). I don't hear any vacuum leaks, I sprayed the hoses down with carb cleaner to check for lesks. Didn't hear any differces. If you spray either into the throttle body when it starts to die it will keep running as long as you spray - Hence my thougth on fuel starvation. A couple of times starting it did run for a couple of minutes. I smell gas fumes (rich) when it does die though. I'm at wits end. HELP
Thanx, John

Answer
Have you also tried changing the air flow meter with a known good one?
The fact that you can speay starting fluid to keep it running means that it is not getting fuel, the air flow meter controls the fuel pump, try connecting a jumper wire on the diagnostic connector under the hood between tewrminals FP+E1 and see if the engine runs, doing this will turn on the fuel pump and bypass any of the relays and the A/F meter.
