Toyota Repair: intermittent starting problem, toyota tacoma prerunner, 1999 toyota tacoma prerunner

Question
1999 Toyota tacoma prerunner v6 automatic, sometimes starts and sometimes doesn t.  I can switch between gears and eventually will start.  Thinking it s neutral safety switch but not sure.  Would like to know where switch is located also.  Maybe where to find a picture of it s location.  What do you think is possible problem and location.

Answer
Starter problems are a lot more common than the neutral start switch, especially if there is a clicking noise associated when it doesn't start, if that's the case replace the starter, if the engine does crank over but not start there is a problem with the ignition system.
If there is no noise at all and the engine won't crank it could be the neutral safety swich, it's located on the right side on the transmission if it's 2 wheel drive where the shift selector rod connects to the transmission.
