Hi Ted,

I have 94 camry 4cyl, auto transmission. I replaced the Engine with 79000mile and have run about 20000mile now. It runs well.

I parked the car one evening and the following morning, it started once and went off by itself and could not start again. It cranks and turns ok but won't  fire. Also at that evening before I parked the car, i've noticed rough idle. This is the first time i've experienced this rough idle ever since i got this.

No diagnostic code from the ECU, the Intergrity of the ECU was tested on similar car and everything worked fine.

No spark from the distributer cables to the spark plugs. One of the cables is found dead when tested with multimeter. I found a crack on the distributor coil.

Due to my geographical location, i'm not yet able to find exact distributor. The engine is 5S-FE.
can i use 3S-FE distributor for this engine?
I've noticed the connectors are not the same but my concern is functionality.
Could it work well?

Thanks for your time.
Please i need the respnse very urgently.

The engines are different and so are the distributors, they are not interchangeable, however the coil is available seperately from the toyota dealer and can be replaced easily.

Question: Idle problem on 94 camry 2.2 LE 4cyl

Thanks for the explanation.

Now I got the distributor and the engine fires ok but needs to be help by pressing the accelerator which was not the case before this problem.
Also the idle doesn't hold, once your foot is off the accelerator pedal the engine goes go off. because the idle could not hold for just a minute the car could not driven.

Please is this electrical misfire?
What can i do to get the ilde stable?

Please post this and the previous question on toyota repair board.
I don't know where to tick to get it posted on the web board.

thanks for your time once again.

Answer
Check the ignition timing, it sounds like the timing is incorrect, the timing must be checked with a timing light at the crankshaft pulley, there is a timing mark(notch) on the outer edge of the pulley, this should line up with the 8 degree advance mark on the timing cover with the engine running using a strobe type timing light.
