Toyota Repair: Toyota Engine Replacement, gm crate engines, 350 crate motors

Question
GM 350 cost well over $2,000 my cost to rebuild. I buy brand new 350 crate motors for $1129. completely assembled!(new block, crank, heads etc) I don't waste my time rebuilding these days! (by the way, the bearings are stamped so you don't have to look all over the block for numbers)
I was just looking for some good advice because I don't work on Toyota's very often. I'm sure they're not that difficult. I'm from the old school where we are "mechanics" and not the "parts replacers" you find today at most dealerships.
My son has a 1993 regular Toyota pick-up with the 22RE 4 cyl engine, 5 speed trans, and 4x4. His engine is shot and we want to replace it.

With the GM's I can order universal GM crate engines that are brand new replacement engines. They are complete long blocks you just bolt in, add your accessories and you're finished!

I went searching for a replacement Toyota engine and it's a whole different ballgame. I found only one crate engine replacement that was totally ridiculous what they want for it! I then checked out rebuilds but there are so many with so many different warranties it's mind boggling!

As we all know, rebuild is a joke of a word! I refer to them as "parts replacers" because they usually only replace totally worn out. My therory is that if an engine has 200,000 and you have rist pins hammering at one cylinder, more than likely they will all be fatiqued. But these so called rebuilders don't rebuild them under that therory. In my opinion, a rebuild should include everything except the block which should be dipped, resurfaced and honed to say the least. the crank, bearings, pistons, rings, lifters and complete new assembled heads should be a "rebuilt" engine.

Heres my question finally!: Have you any suggestion to one of the thousands of rebuilders out there that might be reputable, reasonable, and customer friendly when it comes to warrantee?
I find most warrantees are not worth the paper they're written on!

I would be most thankful for any assisstance you might offer regarding "replacement Toyota Engines".

If as you say, you know Gms inside and out , then a Toyota motor should be no challange for you. Why not rebuild it yourself.
As you say the word REBUILT is subjective at best.
There are numbers stamped on the block , so as long as the crank is good you can order exactly the bearings you need and dont have to bother with measurements or plasticgauge.

You said "ITS SHOT" . did it blow up or come apart?

My suggestion for the easiest and best method would be-

Send the head and block to a machine shop. Put it back together yourself with a Toyota engine set. little more $ than an aftermarket but gives you everything and your way ahead by saving money on the labor.
Put a new chain tensioner waterpump, etc and youll be set for quite a while.
The only company I have seen actually rebuild a Toyota engine the right way is JASPER. There may be other reputable ones out ther, just havent used them,

Answer
I know the bearings are marked, but sometimes its difficult to read them. They stamp the block with the mains and rods so sometimes thats easier to read.
Try JASPER. I think they can get you a long block.
The 22RE motor is highly sought after and the rebiult motor may be expensive.
I just did my sons 22RE, a 1994 Xcab.
Sent the block to the machine shop, bored 20 over. He supplied the piston kit and bearings. Was $425 for the work.
He tanked the head. I lapped new valves in and put it together. put brushes in the Alt, and new contacts in the starter while it was out.
Runs great. Actually has a little more zip from a dead stop now that its punched out.
The body was clean on the truck and sonny boy is happy as can be.
