Toyota Repair: Toyota Transmission error, transmission error, solenoid

Question
MY 2000 Camry LE with 100K miles generated a PO773 code, which I understand is a shift solenoid E problem. Dealer says that that in his experience, the code usually means that in addition to the solenoid, the transmission itself will need to be replaced. Does this make sense to you?

I notice no problem driving and there was no obvious problem when the check engine light went on. The light went off by itself after 50 miles, and then came on again after another 150 miles.
Thanks in advance,
Larry B.

Answer
They are correct. The valves rarely go bad. They get stuck full of metel shavings or debris when the trans is on its way out.
The only thing you can try is replace the solenoid and flush the trans with a WINNS type trans flush machine.
I would say that maybe 3 out of 10 get some more good miles 10-20K before the light returns,
