Toyota Repair: CELICA STARTING PROBLEM, wire harnesses, competent technicians

Question
I have a 1995 Celica convertible with manual transmission in great visual condition.  However, the car recently stopped getting a spark.  Have changed distributor (complete) and ignitor.  Had it towed to Toyota dealer and they say it is an unidentified wire problem and to replace the total wiring harness -- which are no longer available.  They suggested a junk yard -- not for the part, but for the car because the part is not available and tracking the problem is too hard.  Shouldn't it be possible to track the wire that sends the signal to spark?  How about the ignition switch or alarm system -- could they cause this type of problem.

Answer
Ignition switches rarely cause this problem, the only suggestion I have at this time is that if there is an alarm system have it removed completely and returned to original condition.
I don't believe the story about the wire harness having to be replaced, just doesn't sound right. I also don't believe that for a 1995 car there are no parts available,
like a wire harness.
It sounds like the dealer you are going to doesn't have competent technicians so I would try somewhere else to have this diagnosed, wire harnesses can be repaired, if that's the problem, they just have to know what they are doing and know about car electrical systems and be able to read wiring diagrams.
Another thing you may want to consider is the possibility of a broken timing belt, this is pretty easy to check, remove the distributor cap and see if the rotor in the distributor is turning when the engine is cranked over.
If not, the timing belt is broken.
