Toyota Repair: replacing a 2000 carolla headlight, piston seals, valve seals

Question
the driver side headlamp went out.  how do i remove the housing so i can replace the bulb?

also the car is using oil at about 2 quarts per 750 miles.  there are no visible leaks or smoke.  valve seals or piston seals?  how much to repair?

thanks,

Rob

Answer
The bulb can be replaced by removing the battery, then you can access the halogen bulb by turning the retaining ring to release the bulb holder.
The oil has to be going someplace, check for blue smoke from the tailpipe in the morning on start up, if that is the case it's the valve seals, if there is smoke after warmup the rings are the problem, if there is no smoke at all check for an oil leak.
