Toyota Repair: rough running engine, toyota camary, fuel leaks

Question
my fiance has a 1999 toyota camary, and as of 2 days ago it had started running very rough and almost stalling.idleing it has a slight vibration but when put into gear it almost stalls and doesnt run very well at all.i thought it might be water in the fuel so i put stp water remover in but it hasnt helped and in the past day it seems to have gotten worse.i dont think it is a fuel pump issue but im not sure if it is an electrical issue or what.i have thought maybe it is a bad plug wire or plugs but it was tuned up a short time ago.i thought maybe it was sucking air but i dont know where from.i thought even a plugged fuel filter but im not sure where the filter is on this car.i do know that after a few minutes there is a strong smell of gas when i pop the hood to look at it.please will you suggest what to look for or try.i dont know if i can get it to a dealership to get it put on the diagnostic machine.thank you.......jim

Answer
I had a standard answer for you until I read the part of the strong gas smell, fuel leaks are not common on toyotas, it is possible that there is a leak at the fuel filter, do you know if it was replaced recently, if so there may be a leaking fitting, a fuel leak will cause the fuel pressure to drop and cause stalling.
I recommend that you get it to a repair shop or the dealer as soon as possible to address this problem.
