Toyota Repair: T100 starting problem, gear indicator, engine shutdown

Question
I drive a 1995 Toyota T 100 2WD 6 cylinder with an automatic transmission with 276,000 miles on it.  The truck performed perfectly, even after a deer damaged the front end last year, until a few days ago.  I started it and the engine was misfiring this cleared up in a few minute and everything was normal for two days.  Then it began misfire again and would not clear up and the check engine came on.  I thought spark plug wires so I opened the hood to take a look and saw that the coil closest to the firewall had a spark arcing from it to the valve cover.  I turned the engine off and the restarted it and it was still misfiring.  I put the tranmission into drive and the engine shut off.  At the time the engine shutdown the gearshift indicator went out and it was difficult to shift to park.  All of the gauges light up, except for the gear indicator,  but the truck will not start in fact it does nothing.  I do hear a faint click from the engine compartment.  I have checked all fuses, fuseable links and replays.  Any ideas a to what my problem is?   Can I bypass the neutral switch to see if it is bad.

Answer
Before doing anything else try replacing the starter, there may be another problem with the check engine light but I will need to know what engine it is, is it the 3VZN or the 5VZN engine and what is the trouble code that turned the check engine light on?
