Toyota Repair: reconnecting instrument panel to speedometer, speedo cable, light bulbs

Question
Hi Ted. I have a 1987 tercel wagon, 225,000 kms.,automatic. I removed the instrument panel cover in order to replace light bulbs. When I reconnected the panel to the speedometer, the speedo. didn't work. The light bulbs did tho'!
Any ideas? Thanks

Answer
Are you sure the speedo cable is plugged all the way on to the speedometer, it needs to click and lock on when installing it.
If that's not the problem check the cable it may have broken when it was reconnected. Disconnect the cable at the transmission and remove the speedo again and then see if the end of the cable rotates when the other end is turned.
