Happy New Year!  I have a 2000 Camry LE, mileage 76,382 miles.  My talilight indicator came on, and I saw that rear side indicator light was out.  A few minutes later, the check engine light came on..  I replaced the bulb and still had the same warning lights.  When I step on the brake, the "R" lights on the dash.  When I put the car in reverse, the reverse lights don't come on until I release the brake.  I checked all of the fuses, and the tail light went out and the"R" disappeared when I was braking.  I drove around the block and everything was fine, but the "CHECK" light didn't go out.  I got some packaghes out of the trunk.  When I went out again, all of the same probelms were back again, but the right side indicator was still working. What do I do and where do I look?  How do I remove the screws holding the padding covering the wires in the trunk?
Answer -
First make sure that the correct bulbs are installed in all of the sockets including the center brake light, if the bulbs and the ground connections are ok check the tail light warning lamp relay, it's located on the left side in the trunk and the carpeting has to be pulled back to find it, if it smells burned replace it.
The check engine light is a different problem and I recommend tha tyou have the scantool hooked up so you can get the trouble code, some of the autoparts stores will do this at no charge, let me know what that code is.

Dear Mr. Ritter,

Thank you for the valuable advice.  I took the padding from the top part of my trunk and started jiggling wires in the harness.  I also jiggled wires going into connectors, and voila! the problem disappeared.  But it comes back, every time I close my trunk.  Where can I get a diagram of the wiring so that I can check which wire has the problem?  I think it is a white end connector, but I don't know what it is in order to get a new part and replace it.  Thanks again.

Answer
Cut the wire haness insulation open and pull on some of the wires to see if they come apart, they are color coded so it's easy to just connect the broken wires back together using crimping connectors avalable at any electronics or autoparts store.
If you need a diagram send me an email address and I will get back to you.
