Toyota Repair: 4-runner stalling, coolant leaks, overflow tube

Question
i've got a 1995 4-runner w/104,000 miles.it stalled while decelerating and seemed to be overheating(steam coming out of overflow tube).the temp.gauge seemed higher than normal but not in the red. it wouldn't restart so i had it towed home. i thought it was the timing belt. i removed the timing cover and belt was intact.the next morning it started right up. the radiator was about 2 gal. low. so i topped it off and ran it for about 30 min. to see if problem came back but nothing, it seemed to run fine.i was wondering if there is a link between possible overheating and it shutting down.

Answer
It's possible that the thermostat is intermittently sticking closed, I recommend replacing it to see if the overheating stops for good.
These engines also have a history of headgasket problems so if the overheating continues with no external coolant leaks have the headgaskets checked, any toyota dealer can do this.
