Toyota Repair: Toyota LandCruiser key, extended warranty company, toyota landcruiser

Question
Ted...

I have a 1999 LandCruiser that is primarily driven by my wife... approx 10,000 miles per year.  She recently inserted the key and when she turned it to start the vehicle, the "shaft" of the key tristed out of the plastic base.  It doesn't appear the wheel was locked to the point to created undue stress on the key, and she assured me she did nothing out of the ordinary in attempting to start the vehicle.  The vehicle is near the end of an extended warantee we purchased and I would like to have the key replaced under the terms of that contract.  I'm curious as to your experience, if any, with keys failing on Toyota products.

Thanks,

JB

Answer
This is somewhat common, the solution of course is to replace the key and then have it programmed to work the keyless entry and immobilizer functions.
You can either take the vehicle to the toyota dealer and have them contact the extended warranty company or call them yourself to get coverage information on the key.
