Toyota Repair: toyota camary steering, toyota camary, valve cover gasket

Question
I have a 97 camary and have replaced the rack and pinon a
couple of years ago, it was a re-built part. Lately I have been
experiencing the steering to be "sticking" when I turn sharp and
long to the right. It is a bit strange and the only way I know to
describe it is to say it sticks, kind of jerky, like it needs to be
lubricated. I am also looking at replacing the struts, front and
back, and I have a small oil leak. The car has 117,000 miles on
it, and I am wondering if I should be trading it in? The body, and
interior is in very good, condition, but mechanically it seems to
not be the standard "reliable" camary. I also replaced the water
pump and the timing belt about 6 months ago.
I would appreciate any advise you could give me. Thanks, Karen

Answer
The power steering sticking feeling could be caused by a loose power steering belt, at this mileage it 's not unusual to have to replace these parts.
The oil leak could something simple like a leaking valve cover gasket or major like a rear engine main seal, I have no way of knowing so I can't give you any advise for that, have the dealer check it and diagnose it and go from there, if it's an expensive repair it may be a good idea to just trade it in but that's a decision you have to make.
