Toyota Repair: Toyota 1.8 L hesitation, vw diesel, air hoses

Car is a '94 Toyota Corolla. Engine is 1.8 L. 100,000 miles. Problem is hesitation / stumbling during acceleration. Problem started as occasional and is now more frequent. Hesitation can be fairly "violent" as if turning key on and off. Appears to be worse if accelerating slowly. Has never completely stalled. No engine repair work done. Your help will be GREATLY appreciated. I'm an old VW diesel man (retired) and have problems with this "spark stuff!"

This is typical of an intake leak, check the intake air hoses from the throttle body to the air filter for any cracks and make sure the clamps are tight, any air leak between the air filter and the throttle body can cause this, let me know if that's not the problem.
