Toyota Repair: Lights staying on, daytime running light, toyota 4runner

Question
To answer your questions, it started happening 3 days ago, no repair to the vehicle recently, no accidents, no accessories installed recently, and no repair attempts at this point.  Could it be that the headlamp relay needs replaced?  One additional question. . .  When I turn on my fan for heat inside my vehicle, it's making a squeaking noise from time to time.  Is there some kind of belt that might need replaced behind the dash?  Thanks.

I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner 4WD.  When I turn on my vehicle and release the parking brake, my lights automatically come on.  The problem I have is that when I turn my vehicle off and I remove the key from the ignition, that these same lights are staying on.  It's not until I put my key back in the ignition and turn it to ACC then back off, that the lights turn off.  Also, if I actually turn my lights on and then turn my vehicle off, I am no longer getting the warning dinger that my lights are still on.

I need a little more information:
When did this start happening?
Were there any repairs to the veh. recently?
Has it been in an accident and had body repair?
Does it have daytime running lights?
Have any accessories been installed recently, alarm system, strereo system etc?
Has there been a repair attempt to correct this problem?

Answer
You can try replacing the headlight relay. if that doesn't fix it there may be a problem with the integration relay located behind the fuse block under the left side of the dash, could also be a problem with the daytime running light(DRL) relay if so equipped, electrical problems are kind of hard to diagnose like this and I have not encountered this problem so I can't speak from past experience.
There is no belt for the fan it is driven directly from the heater motor, there may be some debris inside the fan housing, the motor and fan are easy to remove, it is attached with three small screws on the bottom just below the glove compartment.
