Toyota Repair: Toyota Paseo 1991 Coupe, australian vehicle warranty group, loose bolts

Question
Hi Ted,

How are you?

I bought a Toyota Paseo 1991 Automatic from a dealer with 3 years warranty. The warranty is given by Australian Vehicle Warranty Group (AVWG) on engine, automatic transmission, differential, cooling system and electrical. I noticed the following problems:

1. There is a squeaking noise from the engine upon starting the car. It lasts for some seconds  and after a while it goes away. There is no need to press the accelerator and the squeaking noise goes away. After the car has warmed up after some driving, the squeaking noise cannot be heard. It only appears upon starting the car after some hours or when the engine is cold or has cooled down. What could be the problem?

2. The fuel consumption increases tremendously when the air-con is ON. Once it is OFF, the fuel consumption seems to be normal. But, i cannot confirm whether it is normal since i just started driving the car for few days. What is the cause?

3. There is some noise while I am positioning to sit on the seat. It seems to be coming from the below where the metal joints are located. It could be that the joints or whatever is not lubricated. What do you think?

Please note that the car runs smoothly and no noise is heard while driving at the moment.

Please advise...

Thank You.

Cheers,
John.

Answer
The squeeking when cold is typically a drive belt that is either loose or worn, check all the belts.
The gas mileage is probably normal it will decrease when using the a/c.
Try sliding the seat all the way back and lubricate the tracks, look for any loose bolts both on the front and rear where it's bolted to the body.
