Toyota Repair: 99 Camry w/ P0300 & P0301 codes, cylinder misfire, wire connectors

Question
Hi Ted, I have an automatic 4 cylinder 1999 Camry CE w/ about 107,000 miles (w/ california emmissions) on it and recently my check engine light came on. I checked it out and it gave me P0300 & P0301 codes. Seems to run ok so far. What do you think caused this? What should I do first ? I can do some work myself if it is not too involved but at least with your help I will know enough so as not to be taken for a RIDE.

            Thanks in advance

Answer
This is a #3 cylinder misfire code, it could be caused by either worn spark plugs or spark plug wires so I'm going to recommend replacing both, the spark plugs are platinum tipped and should be replaced every 60,000 miles, if they have never been replaced, replacing them may cure the problem, when removing the plug wire connectors check for any signs of arcong to ground from the connectors and replace the wire set if in doubt, to clear the code remove the negative post connector from the battery, wait ten seconds and reconnect.
